My Evil Twin

from CHOREOGRAPHIC by Lauren Hoffman

about

Recorded in 2005 during the Choreography sessions, My Evil Twin wasn't included on the album because of one lyric that I was embarrassed about. So it fits that the song is about that critical voice in your head that tells you you're a piece of shit: "she's got a wicked tongue / she's a bitch and she'll turn me into one".

We had no 'final mix' of My Evil Twin, and the master recordings for all the Choreography sessions were destroyed in a fire in 2007. But after moving to Los Angeles recently, I found two different 'rough mixes' of the song on CDs. They were both cool in their own way, but they were even better mixed together! Et voilà. The mix of those mixes is this digital single.

And yes, it's a rock song. But if you listen, please make sure you stick around for the pretty part at the end. I love that part.

lyrics

She's never on my side
She competes just for fun
But I'll never win no matter how fast I run
She always seems so sure
But she's full of shit and she's making me like her

No it doesn't matter where I go
She's the one who's in control
And I'll never be alone I know
Oh and if you're looking for my soul
She traded that old thing in years ago

She doesn't let me speak to anyone else
She's forcing me to live out this life by myself
She's got a wicked tongue
She's a bitch and she'll turn me into one

No it doesn't matter where I go
She's the one who's in control
And I'll never be alone I know
Oh and if you're looking for my soul
She traded that old thing in years ago
I doesn't matter where I fuckin go
She's the one who's in control

But if I close my eyes she'll disappear
She'll still whisper in my ear
It's her voice I've come to fear but she's still here
Taking count and keeping score
I'm the girl she can't adore
If I close my eyes she'll disappear
She'll still whisper in my ear
It's her voice I've come to fear but she's still here
Taking count and keeping score
I'm the girl she can't adore
If I close my eyes she'll disappear
